The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has invested over $200 billion in mega-projects and plans to spend hundreds more by 2030. One such project is Qiddiya Entertainment City near Riyadh, featuring a $750 million Water Theme Park and a $1 billion theme park. This water park, part of the $75 billion Qiddiya project, aims to offer unique and world-first rides.
Since 2016, Saudi Arabia has embarked on ambitious giga-projects under Vision 2030 to diversify its economy and reduce oil dependency. These projects include NEOM, the Red Sea Resort, Amaala Red Sea Riviera, Al-Mukaab, and Qiddiya. Despite initial skepticism, these efforts are transforming Saudi Arabia into a futuristic nation.
Qiddiya, 27 miles from Riyadh, is designed to cater to Saudi Arabiaโs young population, offering entertainment, sports, and cultural experiences. It features theme parks, sports complexes, racing tracks, museums, and more. The Qiddiya Water Park, set to open in 2024, will boast 23 rides, with ten being world-firsts, and integrate Saudi cultural themes.
Managed by Disney veteran Philippe Gas, and designed by Dewan Architects Plus Engineers, the park will use smart technology to minimize water usage. It will include distinct districts like Camel Rock and Arabian Peak, with unique attractions such as underwater car rides.
